Title: MIDEM: on hold, perhaps for ever

RX France (previously known as Reed Midem) announced a while back that they were shelving Midem after two years of lock-down (and their desire to focus on higher-potential projects presumably). So after 55 years, the landmark music biz conference and trade fair looks like it might have expired. Personally, I find this tragic as it brought together the most vibrant people from different sides of the business from North America, Europe and Asia (with a welcome blast from Africa these past few years). BUT: It is known that town of Cannes expressed interest in perhaps managing the event and a brief exchange with a senior manager tells me that things are not quite over yet. Maybe just maybe there will be a 56th edition next year. So for the moment, this group is in slumber mode, with our fingers crossed. Support your music biz events, people. They really do act as the lubricant for international business. I'll probably attend Mama in Paris in the meantime. If you know any other good events, drop a note here.

I am a 23-year veteran of the Midem show and will miss it tremendously. This year, however, I will be attending NU SKOOL RULES in the Netherlands October 7th - 9th in Rotterdam. Would love to see the Urban based artists, producers, labels and professionals from Music2Deal there.
