This track is something more than just a song to me. It’s a confession. An echo of the pain, longing, and struggle that many of us — men — fight in silence. ‘A Child in the Fog’ was created during one of the most difficult moments of my life — during my divorce and separation from my 10-year-old son, who moved to the other side of the continent. I remember the moments during recording when I had to stop because my voice was breaking from emotion and tears were streaming down my face. Every session felt like reopening old wounds… but I knew I had to record it. I had to let it out. This piece touches on a topic we still speak about far too quietly — male depression. Since childhood we’ve heard: ‘Don’t cry.’ ‘Boys don’t cry.’ These words wound us. They teach us that emotions are weakness. That masculinity means silence and a hard face. But we, men, feel too. We suffer too. Sometimes alone, within four walls, we choke down a pain that eats us from the inside. Some try to drown it out — with alcohol, substances, fleeting sex… And some, like my friend, the late Piotrek, can no longer endure it. Today I know that manhood is not silence. Manhood is the courage to say out loud that something hurts. It’s the strength to ask for help. For years I was an ignoramus myself. I laughed at therapy, at psychologists, saying: ‘I’m not some kind of nutcase.’ Today I know how wrong I was. Therapy saved my life. ‘A Child in the Fog’ is a voice for all those who have lost themselves in the darkness — but still carry a spark within to return to the light.
