Brian Huston Bio: Founder/Chief Operations Officer, urArtist network Over his twenty-five years in the entertainment industry Brian Huston has proven his unique talent for developing innovative marketing and promotional solutions for bands and brands looking to form strong, mutually beneficial partnerships. That’s the guiding principle behind his latest endeavour, urArtist network, an evolving online music collective, built to help independent artists and their managers further their careers. In the late 1980’s, when he first began working at iconic Toronto live venues ‘Nag’s Head North’ and ‘Tony’s East’, Huston had no intention of getting into the entertainment industry. As he worked his way up to manager, and began working closely with talent buyers and local promoters to source acts for the clubs, however, Huston discovered a passion for music that would become an integral part of his professional life, long term. In 1990 Huston moved to Labatt Breweries, where he served as Promotions Manager for over seven years. There he built innovative promotional strategies and national campaigns like Labatt Superticket with INXS, Bud Rockin' Country with Hank Williams Jr., Labatt Out of the Blue to the Grammy Awards and the Labatt Blue Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. He also developed lifelong industry relationships on major tours like the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels Tour, Bon Jovi’s Keep The Faith Tour, Tom Cochrane's Life is a Highway Tour and Another Roadside Attraction. In the late 1990’s, Huston opened Houston’s Steakhouse/Churchill’s Cigar & Jazz Club in downtown Toronto, an award-winning establishment recognized for both its food and its importance as a thriving live music venue. The debut Canadian performance of Christina Aguilera, the launch party for Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Destination Anywhere’ soundtrack and solo record, and performances by domestic and international artists such as Oasis, LL Kool J, Paul Brandt and Molly Johnson all took place at Houston’s under Brian’s stewardship. Huston also created Planit Travel, a company specializing in customized luxury travel/event and promotional packages to major sporting events, festivals and concerts worldwide. Initially conceived as a corporate incentive agency, the business soon grew to become a full service travel agency with a focus on the music, sports and entertainment industry; the agent of choice for clients including Warner Music Canada and NFL franchises like the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets. In 2006 as director of marketing for The Docks, Huston transformed what was then an out of the way venue into a multi-purpose entertainment and leisure centre, featuring a drive in theatre, pool complex, driving range and a live concert venue. Renamed Polson Pier, under Huston’s stewardship it has since become one of the premiere concert venues of its kind in Canada. Hosting perennially successful festivals like Ozzfest and the Vans Warped Tour, and classic and contemporary artists including Kid Rock, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Franz Ferdinand, Snoop Dogg and Billy Talent.
