Deep Torkel & His Rock ’n’ Roll Stars feat. Sister Aron [The Leather Nun] Playing It Safe (Album, Erik Axl Sund Records 2020) Torkel Knutsson alias Deep Torkel is a musician and multi-artist. As a director and screenwriter he created the Netflix success ”Naked" in 2017 and in 2022 his new Hollywood film "Get Lucky" will premiere. But it is in punk that he has his roots. After releasing the critically acclaimed 4-vinyl box "I Love Dead People" (Erik Axl Sund Records, 2018) – one of Sweden's most ambitious and craziest record project ever – and together with his old sleaze rock band Suzie Beats Them All and the album ”Drugs, Party, Pussy & Pain” (Erik Axl Sund Records, 2020), Deep Torkel is back with a new album. In the early eighties Deep Torkel and Sister Aron Aronsson from The Leather Nun decided in drunkenness that they should make a record together. 40 years later, it is finally finished. This is in other words the first collaboration between two of Sweden's most cult-minded personalities. "Playing It Safe" is their tribute to "Dad Rock" but the guys they pay tribute to are not Bruce Springsteen, but of course Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Lou Reed. Deep Torkel says that he himself hates old rock and that is why the album has been named "Playing It Safe", ”It is probably the first time I have ever done something that can and will be played on the radio”, he says. To say that the record is tunable is perhaps an exaggeration, but ordinary FM listening people who have heard the record usually like what they hear. This is the first full-length where Sister Aron plays lead guitar and has written most of the songs since The Leather Nun´s glory days during the eighties. And of course you hear some sounds from the above mentioned artists / inspirers even though it sounds very unique and there are of course songs that could be placed on any The Leather Nun album or any of Deep Torkel's previous works. Martin Rössel has done a fantastic job where the rawness and pain from really dirty rock 'n' roll shines through in the all-too-magnificently beautiful production. "Playing It Safe" will be released on Friday, December 3, 2021 in an exclusive edition in purple vinyl with a bonus CD, and digitally on most platforms.
